The National Museum Zurich is located in the centre of the city. It is part of the Federal Museums Group, the ‘Swiss National Museum’ (SNM). The SNM brings together three museums – the National Museum Zurich, the Château de Prangins and the Forum of Swiss History Schwyz – as well as the Collections Centre. With more than 820,000 objects, the SNM has the largest collection on Swiss cultural history and applied arts. The permanent exhibitions at the museums present Swiss cultural history from its beginnings to the present, and give an insight into Swiss identity and the rich tapestry of Switzerland’s history and culture. Varied special exhibitions on topical themes add to this wealth of information. The National Museum Zurich is the most visited history museum in Switzerland.
